2. Purpose and Expected Impacts of Seoksu Market Project 2007
○ Purpose
Supplement Space Stone & Water, focusing on the culture and art in everyday life, has carried out diverse local artistic activities, public arts and other culture and art initiatives in the traditional market in Seoksu-dong, Anyang. It is currently performing an international residency program with Korean and international artists selected from the pool of artists engaged in the locality initiatives or public art programs. The international residency program, Seoksu Market Project 2007, is intended to trigger the making of a newly formed cultural village and economic community movement to revive the sustainability and community spirit of the micro community that long disappeared during the industrialization and modernization period, while studying local economic communities and traditional markets that have been disappearing since the advent of the neo-liberalistic market economy.
○ Expected Impacts
The international residency program, Seoksu Market Project 2007, will be an opportunity for artists from Korea and abroad, who are working based on locality, mediating contemporary art and culture or carrying out new experimental creative works, to stay and work for three months at the market and experience new perspectives in interpreting Anyang, more specifically, Seoksu Market. It also offers the chance to critically look at various cultural and art movements in Anyang, the programs of Stone & Water, and the impact of community-style residence on the type of public art. By so doing, it is expected to provide opportunities on discussing the influence and possibilities of a variety of art, educational and cultural activities of Stone & Water and other future projects to be planned in Anyang
