Happy News

All the news that we can read in newspapers or get from media are bad or tragic, as if only “bad news sells.” We propose to create a newspaper that provides happy news about the Seoksu Market community. We will gather information from the shopkeepers about their families, and the happy events that have happened to them recently. We will create a series of works combining text and paintings based on their stories/quotes, which will be distributed in each shop as a free gift. They can be scanned and enlarged, and displayed on a large scale on the walls.

Cities are created by people. By publishing Happy Newspaper, we hope to engage with people in positive action, point to their stories as an important part of reality, give people a chance to share good news with their neighbors, and pay attention to individuals. Happy news can be a start for conversations, create a friendly atmosphere, and strengthen bonds between neighbors. Every day, ordinary events and experiences can change into exciting stories.

Seoksu Market is small in scale, like the surrounding neighborhood. Comparing to new block towers, it has a human scale. This quiet place is more like home than a workplace. By producing the happy newspaper that makes Seoksu shop owners accessible to others, we want to help this homely atmosphere to grow.


해피 뉴스

신문 혹은 매체에서 접할 수 있는 기사들은 마치 “나쁜 뉴스 판매bad news sells”인 양, 모두 나쁜 일이거나 비극적이다. 우리는 석수시장 공동체에 대한 즐거운 소식을 제공하는 신문을 만들고자 한다. 우리는 시장상인들로부터 그들의 가족에 대한 정보와 최근에 있었던 행복했던 일들을 수집 할 것이다. 그리고 그들의 이야기와 인용문들을 바탕으로 텍스트와 회화를 결합한 작품 시리즈를 제작하여, 각 상점에 마치 하나의 무료 선물처럼 배포할 것이다. 또한 이 작품들을 스캔하고 확대해서 벽면에 대형으로 전시할 것이다.

도시란 사람들에 의해 창조되는 것이다. ‘해피 뉴스’(행복신문)를 발행하여, 우리는 긍정적인 활동을 통해 사람들과 관계를 맺고, 그들의 이야기를 현실의 중요한 부분으로 제시할 수 있기를 바란다. 그리고 사람들에게 이웃들과 좋은 소식을 공유하고 개개인에게 주목할 수 있는 기회를 제공하기를 희망한다. ‘해피 뉴스’(행복신문)는 소통의 출발점이 될 수 있으며, 친절한 분위기를 생성하고, 이웃간의 유대를 강화할 수 있을 것이다. 매일의 일상적인 사건과 경험들이 흥미로운 이야기로 전환될 수 있다.

석수시장은 주변 인근처럼 작은 규모를 가지고 있다. 새로운 고층 건물들과 비교했을 때, 이것은 인간적인 스케일이다. 이 고요한 장소는 일터라기보다는 집에 가깝다. 석수시장의 상인들과 다른 사람들 간의 매개체가 될 ‘해피뉴스’(행복신문)을 제작함으로써 따뜻한 환경이 조성되는데 도움이 되길 바란다.
